Covered Porch Remodel
About the project~
These homeowners had a porch that was in rough shape. The tails of the roof joists were rotten from water dripping down and no gutters. Also they were exposed and unsightly, running up onto the house roof. The posts were just sitting on the slab with no brackets. Additionally they had small children, and wanted them to be able to play on the porch without risk of falling.
I sistered joist ends over the beam with structural screw connections; added framing so that a vinyl soffit could be added; enclosed the ceiling so that the other roof was no longer visible; and installed the tongue and groove boards to enclose the ceiling. Lastly I installed a gutter. On the porch I added 4x4 post brackets, built railings, and added lockable gates.
